Ivano's Italiano, the Italian takeaway at 11 Whitesands in Dumfries, makes pizza, pasta, chicken dishes and fish and chips, so one order can feed a family or a crowd with different tastes. Here's how to put together a single order that works for everyone, whether it's a Friday night in, the end of a match day or a shared flat.

Ordering one meal is easy. Ordering for six people, two of them children, one vegetarian and one who won't touch anything spicy, is where a takeaway night can go wrong.
One order for everyone, in five steps
Start with pizzas to share
A few different 10-inch and 12-inch pizzas in the middle of the table means everyone gets to try more than one.
Add a plate or two
Pasta, chicken and risotto dishes are single meals, for anyone who'd rather have their own.
Add sides that share well
Panzanelle, focaccia, onion rings, chicken nuggets and chips.
Check every diet and allergy
Choose vegan mozzarella or no cheese as you build each pizza, and if anyone has an allergy, add it in the notes box at checkout, ring the shop, or tell us at the counter before you order.
Choose delivery or collection
Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and follow your order on its status page.
Start with the pizzas
Our classic pizzas come in 10-inch and 12-inch, and the plain build-your-own bases are 12-inch. For a group, a few different pizzas in the middle of the table works well.
Our pizzas are Romana style: a thin, crisp base rather than a deep pan. There's more about that in our pizza article.
Add sides that share well
Panzanelle
Little fried balls of pizza dough, in boxes of 12 or 18.
Focaccia
Our garlic bread, as a 10-inch round.
Onion rings
Ten to a portion.
Chicken nuggets
Eight to a portion.
Chips
Large or small.
Dips
Garlic mayonnaise, arrabbiata, BBQ tomato chilli and more.
If the focaccia and panzanelle are new to you, read what we make with our pizza dough, and our guide to dips and sides has the rest.
Drinks for the table
As well as cans, there are 1.25-litre bottles of Coca-Cola and 2-litre bottles of Red Kola for sharing. See the drinks list.
For children
We don't have a separate children's menu, but there are plenty of mild, familiar choices:
- A Margherita, Prosciutto (ham) or Miami (ham and pineapple) pizza.
- Macaroni Cheese, made with our homemade cheese sauce.
- Chicken nuggets with small chips.
- A sausage, fish or hamburger from the fryer.
Watch out for chilli
Our arrabbiata is a spicy tomato sauce, and many of our tomato pasta dishes start from it, including the Imperiale, Al Ivanos, Vegetariana and Pollo Arrabbiata. If a child doesn't like heat, a creamy dish such as the Carbonara, Boscaiola or Campagnola is a safer bet, or the Macaroni Cheese. Some dishes are hot on purpose: the Diavola pizza and pasta come with chilli flakes and jalapeños. Our guide to the spicy dishes sorts the whole menu from mild to hot.
Different diets in one order
One basket can cover everyone:
- Vegan: four vegan pizzas, vegan mozzarella or no cheese on any classic pizza, and our garlic focaccia, which is marked vegan on our menu.
- Vegetarian: the Margherita, Al Funghi and Vegetariana pizzas are marked V. Our fryers use beef dripping, so nothing from the fryers is vegetarian. Our vegan and vegetarian guide covers the questions worth asking.
- Avoiding gluten: gluten-free penne can be swapped into pasta dishes, cooked in its own pan. Our kitchen still handles wheat every night, so please read our article on gluten and allergies first.
- Allergies: if anyone in the group has a food allergy, check the allergens page and tell us before you order: add it in the notes box at checkout, ring the shop, or tell us at the counter, naming the dish and the allergy. With a big order, that matters even more.

Pasta, chicken and risotto are single plates
Our pasta, chicken and risotto dishes are made as individual meals, not sharing platters, so order one for each person who wants one. A mix works well: a couple of pizzas to share, plus a pasta dish or two for the people who'd rather have their own plate.
Big orders and busy nights
The checkout shows the delivery charge before you pay, and your confirmation email gives an estimated time. On busy nights that estimate is longer, and we'd rather tell you honestly than promise a time we can't keep. If there's food left over, our guide to storing and reheating leftovers has Food Standards Scotland's advice.
Match days, students and nights in
- Match days: Palmerston Park is about half a mile from the shop. If you're heading home after a game, you can order online and collect on the way.
- Students: the Crichton campus, home to the University of Glasgow, UWS and Dumfries and Galloway College, is a little over two miles from us, so it should be inside our delivery area. Your postcode at the checkout has the final say.
- Nights in: once we reopen, we're open Thursday to Sunday, 4pm to 10pm, for delivery and collection.

Questions people ask
Do you have a children's menu?
Not a separate one, but there are plenty of mild choices: a Margherita, ham or ham and pineapple pizza, macaroni cheese, chicken nuggets, or a sausage or fish from the fryer.
Which dishes aren't spicy?
The creamy pasta dishes, such as the Carbonara, Boscaiola and Campagnola, have no chilli in their descriptions, and nor does the Macaroni Cheese. Anything built on arrabbiata has a little chilli, and the Diavola is hot on purpose.
Can one order include a vegan, a vegetarian and someone avoiding gluten?
Yes, with care. There are four vegan pizzas, vegetarian pizzas marked V, and gluten-free penne cooked in its own pan. Our fryers use beef dripping, and our kitchen handles wheat every night, so please read our guides and tell us about any allergy before you order.
How do I pay?
Online at ivanos.uk by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Have an allergy? Please read our allergen information and tell us before you order.
