Ordering a takeaway for someone else in Dumfries: whose details go where

You can send a meal from Ivano's Italiano, the Italian takeaway at 11 Whitesands in Dumfries, to someone else's door by ordering at ivanos.uk and paying with your own card. Put their name, their phone number and their address on the order, so our driver can find them and ring them, and your own email address, so the receipt and order updates come to you. Until we reopen, the site shows the menu but isn't taking orders.

Ask them first

Before you order, check the person is happy for you to do it, and that they'll be in. Their name, phone number and address go on the order, our driver has them to make the delivery, and we keep them with our records of the order: our privacy notice explains how long. Asking first also lets you find out the two things only they know: what they'd like to eat, and whether they have any allergies.

Whose details go where

Our checkout has one set of details for each order. There aren't separate boxes for the person paying and the person eating, so this is what goes where:

Box at the checkoutWhose detailsWhy
NameTheirsIt's the name on the order and on our ticket
MobileTheirsOur driver rings this number if they can't find the house or nobody answers
EmailYoursYour receipt and every email about the order go here
No., Street and PostcodeTheirsWhere we deliver. The postcode sets the delivery charge
Notes for the kitchenAnything we should knowAllergies first. It's printed on our tickets for the order

A few details that help:

  • No mobile? The box is labelled Mobile, but it also takes a UK landline number, so a home phone works.
  • A flat? Put the flat number in the No. box along with the house or building number.
  • Your card, their address. The card you pay with doesn't have to match the delivery address. We never see or store your card number.

Check we deliver to them

We deliver with our own drivers up to about four miles by road from the shop on the Whitesands, which covers most of Dumfries in DG1 and DG2. Put their postcode in at the checkout and it tells you straight away, before you pay, whether we can reach them and what the delivery charge is. Our guide to where we deliver in Dumfries lists the areas.

Allergies: ask them, then tell us

You're choosing food for someone else, so ask them about allergies before you order and check our allergen information. Add any allergy in the Notes for the kitchen box at the checkout (it holds up to 300 characters), or ring the shop before you place the order: the number is on our contact page. Everything is cooked in one small kitchen, with shared worktops, pans, fryers and utensils. We handle all 14 allergens every night. We take care, but we cannot promise that any dish is free from any allergen.

Make sure someone will be in

This matters more when the food isn't for you. Our terms say what happens at the door:

  1. The driver tries the door

If nobody answers, our driver rings the door, tries to call the number on the order twice and waits a few minutes.

  2. If nobody can be reached

The food comes back to the shop, and we can't refund it: it was made for that order and we can't sell it to anyone else.

  3. Collecting it instead

The food can be collected from the shop that evening. If something went wrong, call or email us and we'll be fair about it.

That's why their phone number goes on the order, not yours. Let them know roughly when to expect it, and to keep their phone nearby.

Letting them know it's on its way

Our emails go to the address on the order, so they come to you, not to them. Once we accept the order, your order page and your Order confirmed email show the estimated delivery time, so you can pass it on. You can also send them the order page itself: it shows their first name, the order number and the total (worth knowing if it's a present), but no address, phone number or email.

If you have an account, or order as a guest

  • Signed in: the checkout fills in your own details. Change the name, mobile and address to theirs before you pay. That doesn't change the details saved on your account, and the order still appears under your orders.
  • As a guest: after you've paid, your order page offers Save your details. On an order for someone else, it's best to skip it, because it would save their name, number and address into an account under your email. If it happens, you can change them under Your details on your account.

Questions people ask

Can I order an Ivano's takeaway for someone at a different address?

Yes, once we reopen. Order at ivanos.uk, choose Delivery, and put in their name, phone number and address, with your own email address. Pay with your own card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Whose phone number should I put on the order?

Theirs. It's the number our driver rings if they can't find the house or nobody comes to the door.

Will the person I'm ordering for get the emails?

No. Order emails go to the email address on the order, so if you put your own, they come to you. Let the person know when to expect their food.

Can I pay with my card for delivery to someone else's address?

Yes. Online orders are paid by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Link, through Stripe, and the card doesn't have to match the delivery address. We never see or store your card number.

What if they're not in when the food arrives?

Our driver rings the door, tries to call the number on the order twice and waits a few minutes. If nobody can be reached, the food comes back to the shop and can't be refunded, but it can be collected from the shop that evening.

Have an allergy? Please read our allergen information and tell us before you order.
